Brighton Pride announces event sponsors to silence critics

The Pride staff and trustees have faced a barrage of criticism and complaint online and in local media over recent weeks over their handling of the contract to supply bars and drink sales at the Preston Park party on 7 August, which saw the sacking of previous contractors Aeon Events and the appointment of a replacement company, 19Events Ltd, without a formal tendering process.

Now organisers are seeking to allay fears over the financial viability of the event with an announcement that they have already secured sponsorship deals in excess of last year’s total of £109,000.

Among sponsors signed up are Barclays Bank, sponsoring the community village, The Co-Operative, who have confirmed a three year deal to partner Pride’s volunteer scheme and Ford, who will be supporting the annual Ford Pride Football tournament.

In related news, Brighton Police have set a limit of 55 floats or walking tableaux for the Brighton Pride Parade. Community groups, businesses or other organisations have until 28 June to book one of these slots.
