July is a fantastic month for festivals. The weather great and it seems to put everyone in a great mood. And with so many fun things to do, we all have every reason to be in great moods! We’ve pulled together a list of our top favourite festivals in July/August. Spoiler alert! There will be film, sand, literature, beer, tea, kites dance and a whole lot of Pride! Intrigued? Read on!

Brighton’s Big Screen Festival – now to 13/07/2014 – For the third year running, Brighton beach has been hosting the Big Screen festival. What is this festival, I hear you ask? Well, it’s exactly what it says on the tin. Brighton’s Big Screen brings you a 100 foot LED screen to the Brighton seafront, displaying an array of interesting films and sports coverage. The festival started in June and is coming to the end of its tenure on the beach. With only a half week left, if you haven’t caught this festival yet, now is your chance! Brighton Sand Sculpture Festival – Now to 28/09/2014 – When we say sand, what do you think of? Buckets and spades, right? Well, this festival features some of that but the finished products of the festival is light years away from the simple castles or mermaids you might have made when you were a kid. This festival is themed ’Around the World…in Sand’ and will take you round the world while your feet are firmly planted in the sands of Brighton. Kipling Festival Rottingdean – 10-22/07/2014 – Rottingdean is a coastal village within the city of Brighton and Rudyard Kipling’s home from 1897 until 1902 and will be host to celebrations of the life and work of Rudyard. This festival will include readings from Kipling’s works, theatre, games, talks, tours and more. For more info, go to:

Patchfest Community Festival – 12/07/2014 – Celebrating their 10th annual Patchfest, this event – brought to you by ‘The Friends of William Clarke Park – promises live music, beer, tea, delicious food, circus fun, healing and lots of stuff for kids to do as well. This festival will be taking place at William Clarke Park. For more info, go to:

Brighton Kite Festival – 12-13/07/2014 – Let’s go fly a kite! Well, with this festival, you can! This is a free, public event being held at Stanmer Park from 11:00 – 17:00 and will feature some impressive kite flying displays! For more info, go to:

Shakedown Festival – 19/07/2014 – If you like dance and electronic greats Basement Jaxx and Groove Armada, then this is the festival for you. This music festival is for over 18s only, so bear that in mind when buying tickets. It will be held at Waterhall Park. For more info, go to:

Pride Festival – 19/07/2014 – 02/08/2014 - The Pride festival isn’t just about the Parade. There’s the arts and film festival, the Doggy pride, the Rainbow Run and finally the Parade, as we explored here. For more info, go to:
